We met up with the team for prayer before the store was opened
last Friday. It was a team of a dozen or so of staff and volunteers
with real life prayer requests and needs, joining together to serve the
needs of their community.
GraceWorks Ministry in Franklin, Tennessee is dedicated to sharing
the hope and grace of God by helping our neighbors in need. This dream
comes alive for them in the form of a thrift store, food pantry, crisis
support, and spiritual encouragement for people in their community.
We learned about the history from their director, Carol. The dream
was launched when several churches in the area realized the need for an
effective way to serve those in need in their county. The churches
reached past the denominational lines and joined together to birth
GraceWorks in 1995.
They have a staff of 15-20 and around 200 volunteers who serve on any
given week. It is a massive undertaking. Their network grew even
stronger as they responded to the needs of the flood victims last year.
They experienced the power of the body of Christ. We could feel it
too as we served along beside them. The unity. The love that compels
them to help their neighbors.
We asked Carol what the most difficult part of her job is and she
said, “When we have to say ‘no’ to someone. We simply can’t meet every
need.”
