90,000 and Room for More

This week, our staff here at Adventures in Missions (AIM), brought in oodles of food, ate on tables set up under our big tent, and celebrated together.  We celebrated the risen Lord, the beautiful 80 degree day, and our 90,000th missions participant.

We had a phone call with our 90,000th participant, a 16 year old, who is currently on a trip to Mississippi.  And we talked with our very 1st participant who went on a trip 20 years ago.  Both said their lives were changed because of their experiences on an AIM trip.

Yesterday, we were wondering what impact those 90,000 people have made in their worlds.  Many of those 90,000 are still doing missions, many of them have worked for AIM, most would say their lives have been changed for the better.   We pondered the return on the investment into the 90,000 people might be if we were able to track it.  (Think of the rings that go out from the center if you throw a stone in a pond.)  Staggering.

AIM’s strategy has been pretty simple.  Love God, love others, and go into the darkest, most desperate places to love on the widows, orphans, and brokenhearted.  And do this while you are teaching and equipping other believers to do the same.

Over the course of 22 years, AIM has
sent youth and adults all over the world, to almost 60 countries
(including the U.S), in every continent except Antarctica, through
various programs, notably through:

  • short term missions: 3-day to 2-week trips for youth groups, adults (groups & individuals) and families;
  • high school and college missions: 2-5 weeks trips for individual youth (ages 14-18) and 1-9 month trips for college students (ages 18-22);
  • The World Race: 11 months in 11 countries for young adults (ages 21-35).
I’m praying for 90,000 more and in only a few years rather than two
decades.  Exponential growth in those who are willing to love others.
That’s really all it takes.  The willingness to love God and love
others.  You’ll find it’s worth the risk.
