We met Lori yesterday.
We were waiting for the
AIM team to come back to base camp to give us instructions. We were hanging out on the shaded front porch of
True Adventures Sports (our contact for the Tornado relief) when Lori and Kim drove up. They had just finished kayaking on a near-by river enjoying the 90+ degree day in the cool water.
They were dropping off the kayaks they rented and something struck in my spirit and nudged me to talk with them. We struck up a conversation and they asked who we were and what we were doing. Then I started asking them about them. Lori shared that she had a successful photography business, but felt that there was something more to life.
Yeah… I know that feeling…
Here in mid-life, she feels God calling her to go back to school and finish her degree in Religion. She’s unsure what that will lead to doing. She believes God is teaching to be okay with the not knowing. Lori also shared she was just leaving a season of dark times. Many call them the “dark nights”. That season when God can take away just about everything except your relationship with Him. He often does this as preparation for a whole new season of life.
We prayed for Lori and her new season and endeavor and over Kim for life’s blessings.
They thanked us several times. Lori hugged me twice. Both she and Kim thanked us for what we are trying to do. Thanked us for doing it and told us how much it meant to them.
What they didn’t realize is how much it meant to us too. It was the highlight of our day.
That’s how it’s supposed to work, right? The “love one another” commands Jesus gave us. Pretty cool.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” John 13:34
